Japanese Yen exchange rate today April 26, 2025: Maintained at a high level
Japanese Yen exchange rate today April 26, 2025: The Japanese Yen exchange rate is showing positive signals, as the USD/JPY pair remains firmly above the 143.00 mark.
The rate bounced sharply in Friday's trading session, hitting 143.96 as the US dollar continued to regain strength.
The main driver of the rally was expectations that US President Donald Trump would soon reach trade agreements with several major partners. Speaking to reporters in Rome, before leaving for Pope Francis' funeral, Mr. Trump said trade talks were progressing well and the US was getting closer to signing a deal with Japan.
However, there have been mixed signals on the trade front between the US and China. While China insists that no negotiations are taking place, President Trump said that Chinese President Xi Jinping called him. Trump stressed that he did not consider the call a sign of concession from China.
Shortly afterwards, during the European trading session, a Chinese embassy spokesman continued to deny information about consultations or negotiations related to tariffs with the US.
In Japan, new data also helped support the yen. Tokyo's consumer price index (CPI) rose more than expected in April, rising 3.4% year-on-year, beating the forecast of 3.2% and up from 2.4% in the previous period. This reinforced expectations that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) will continue to pursue its interest rate hike path in the coming time.
