In the final match of the 2016 U16 Asian qualifiers yesterday, U16 Vietnam lost to U16 Australia 0-1 and accepted second place in the group.
This position makes the ticket to the final round of the tournament uncertain for coach Dinh The Nam and his team. Therefore, we have to wait until the other groups have finished before the fate of U16 Vietnam will be decided.
As a result, in no group did the second-placed teams have better results than U16 Vietnam, so our young team won a ticket to the 2016 AFC U16 Championship in India as the best second-placed team.
Among the 16 teams that won tickets, Vietnam also had Malaysia (first in Group G) and Thailand (second in Group H) as representatives of Southeast Asian football.
The 16 teams that have qualified for the finals are as follows: India (host), Democratic People's Republic of Korea (defending champion), Japan, South Korea, Australia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Iran, Uzbekistan, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, UAE, Nepal and Saudi Arabia.
The final round of the tournament will take place in September next year in India, the 4 semi-finalists will have tickets to the 2017 U17 World Cup. This is the first time U16 Vietnam has won a ticket to the final round after two consecutive absences (2012 and 2014)./.
