U16 Vietnam 'destroyed' U16 Brunei 15-0 at Southeast Asian tournament

The Vietnam U16 team destroyed Brunei U16 in the opening match of the 2024 Southeast Asian U16 Championship.

On the afternoon of June 22, the Vietnam U16 team had its opening match against Brunei U16 at the 2024 Southeast Asian U16 tournament.

Before the match, coach Tran Minh Chien affirmed that he and his students set a goal of reaching the finals, and would win first place in Group B. Meanwhile, the coach of U16 Brunei said that he and his students came to the tournament to learn.

With a force that was considered stronger, the U16 Vietnam team pushed up their formation to attack right after the referee blew the starting whistle. In the 17th minute, U16 Vietnam opened the score with a goal by Viet Long. 5 minutes later, Tan Dung made an assist for Tien Long to finish with one touch, raising the score to 2-0 for U16 Vietnam.

The early 2-goal loss also significantly reduced the spirit of U16 Brunei. On the other hand, the U16 Vietnam players were even more excited. Coach Tran Minh Chien's students continuously "fired" into the U16 Brunei net after well-organized attacks.

In the 33rd minute, Dau Hong Phong increased the gap to 3-0 with a beautiful long-range shot. 3 minutes later, Thai Hieu continued to make the Brunei goalkeeper helpless after a shot from a distance of up to 25m, raising the score to 4-0 for U16 Vietnam.

In the final minutes of the first half, U16 Vietnam still did not want to stop. The pressure on the goal of U16 Brunei increased. In the 40th minute, Viet Long completed his hat-trick in the first half, raising the score to 5-0. However, this was not the last goal that U16 Vietnam had in the first 45 minutes. In the final minutes, U16 Vietnam was awarded a penalty after Gia Bao was fouled in the penalty area. On the 11m mark, this player successfully converted to raise the score to 6-0 for U16 Vietnam.

In the second half, U16 Vietnam continued to maintain strong pressure on Brunei's field. In the 50th minute, Cao Cuong broke through on the wing before passing the ball back to the second line for Dau Hong Phong to finish, raising the score to 7-0 for U16 Vietnam. In the 53rd minute, Van Bach headed the ball close to the goal, bringing U16 Vietnam to an 8-0 lead.

The match could not have been easier for U16 Vietnam. U16 Brunei seemed unable to withstand the sharp attacks of the red team. In the 57th minute, substitute player Thien Phu increased the score to 9-0.

In the remaining minutes of the match, U16 Vietnam continued to put the ball into the net of U16 Brunei 6 more times thanks to goals from Thanh Binh (66', 85', 87'), Hong Quang (68'), Thai Hieu (83'), Nguyen Luc (90+5') to close the big victory with a score of 15-0 against U16 Brunei.

After an impressive victory on the opening day, the Vietnam U16 team will have 3 days off before entering the second match of Group B against Cambodia U16 at 7:30 p.m. on June 25.
