U23 Vietnam has a good start in the qualifying round of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship

On the evening of September 3, at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho), U23 Vietnam had a smooth opening match in the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers when defeating U23 Bangladesh with a score of 2-0, thanks to goals from Nguyen Ngoc My and Le Viktor.

The 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers will take place from September 3 to 9, with 44 teams participating, divided into 11 groups. The 11 group winners, the four best runners-up, and host Saudi Arabia will qualify for the finals. In Group C, U23 Vietnam is in the same group with Bangladesh, Singapore, and Yemen.

Rated much higher than their opponents, the team that has failed six times in a row in the qualifying round and is currently ranked 184th in FIFA, U23 Vietnam entered the match proactively. Coach Kim Sang-sik's players organized high-level pressing, putting pressure on their opponents right from the first minutes.

In the 10th minute, Bangladesh's goal was shaken by Phi Hoang's long-range shot. Although goalkeeper Mehdi Hasan was helpless, the ball still found the post. However, the home team took an early advantage in the 15th minute. From Dinh Bac's delicate pass, Ngoc My calmly ran down and shot diagonally, opening the score 1-0 for U23 Vietnam.

In the rest of the first half, Vietnam continued to create many opportunities but could not take advantage. Bangladesh only had one notable situation in the 41st minute when Al Amin shot in the penalty area, but goalkeeper Trung Kien easily controlled it. The two teams left the field after the first 45 minutes with the advantage leaning towards the red team.

After the break, Bangladesh tried to push up their formation but could not create much pressure. U23 Vietnam still controlled the game and continuously organized sharp attacks.

In the 59th minute, Xuan Bac volleyed the ball in the penalty area and missed the post. In the 77th minute, Viktor Le almost doubled the gap with a technical shot but the crossbar denied the goal.

The great pressure finally materialized in the 83rd minute. From a corner kick on the left wing, Ly Duc jumped high to head the ball for Viktor Le to quickly touch the ball close to the goal, raising the score to 2-0 for U23 Vietnam.

In the final minutes, Van Khang and his teammates continued to create a number of opportunities but could not score more goals. The match ended with a convincing 2-0 victory for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team.

Three points on the opening day helped U23 Vietnam have a favorable start in Group C, and at the same time create psychological momentum for the goal of qualifying for the U23 Asian finals for the sixth consecutive time.
