U23 Vietnam reunites with Thailand in the 2020 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers
According to the draw results for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship qualifying round, coach Park Hang-seo and his team will be in group K with their decades-long rival - Thailand U23.
At the draw ceremony held in Thailand early this afternoon (November 7), U23 Vietnam was placed in Group K with Thailand (also the host country of the finals a year later), Indonesia and Brunei. This is considered a group that is "suitable" for the red-shirted army.
Because next year's qualifying round will be for players born from 1997 onwards. And this is the "golden" generation of players who have contributed greatly to helping the U20 and U23 teams achieve success in the U20 World Cup, the 2018 U23 Asian Cup or the 18th ASIAD.

The qualifying campaign will take place from March 22 to 26, 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City. With home field advantage and a stable team, it is conceivable that U23 Vietnam is expected to easily get a ticket.
The 2020 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers feature 44 teams, divided into 11 groups. After three rounds of matches, except for host Thailand, the top 11 teams in each group will qualify directly for the finals. The AFC will then select the four best runners-up to win four “reserve tickets” to the Land of the Golden Pagoda.
If host Thailand leads the qualifying round or is among the top four best second-placed teams, the number of teams that will qualify will increase to five. At the finals in January 2020, the three highest-ranked teams will represent Asia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
