The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that it has suspended the activities of North Korea's non-permanent ambassador in the country, and at the same time terminated the activities of its envoy in Pyongyang, according to Reuters.
In addition, the UAE also stopped issuing new visas or business licenses to North Korean citizens. Several thousand North Korean laborers are working mainly at construction sites in this Gulf country.
"These measures are within the framework of the UAE's obligations as a responsible member of the international community, to build a common resolve to stop North Korea's nuclear and missile programs," the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement stressed.
The UAE's statement came as US President Donald Trump is calling on UN member states to increase pressure to force North Korea to stop its weapons program, which he calls the top challenge facing the world.
Previously, two other Gulf countries, Qatar and Kuwait, also downgraded relations with North Korea and stopped issuing visas to its citizens.
