Provincial People's Committee works with Steering Committee on forest fire prevention and protection

According to the report of the Department of Agriculture, the work of forest fire prevention and protection has recently revealed many shortcomings. In particular, it is noted that the role and responsibility of the forest rangers has allowed deforestation in many localities, and illegal transportation and trading of forest products.
Some districts have not given strong direction, have not organized inspections and confiscated forest products from the people; have not grasped information in a timely manner to handle violations in forest fire prevention and protection. Since the beginning of the year, there have been 18 forest fires in the province, damaging nearly 60 hectares of forests of all kinds in the districts of Nam Dan, Nghi Loc, Que Phong, Do Luong, Hung Nguyen and Quy Chau.

Deforestation occurs frequently in Thanh Chuong, Anh Son, Tuong Duong, Que Phong, and Quy Chau districts. The provincial Forest Protection Department has organized inspection teams in key communes where illegal forest exploitation often occurs in mountainous districts; in the first 6 months of the year, the authorities have arrested and handled 762 cases of violations of the law on forest management and protection. Of which, 47 cases of illegal logging, 1 case of forest fire prevention and fighting, 25 cases of forest animal management, and 591 cases of forest product transportation. More than 538 m3 of round timber, 1,129 m3 of sawn timber, 2 cars, 10 ox carts, 7 motorbikes, and many other vehicles have been confiscated; over 15.3 billion VND has been paid to the state budget. Regarding the task of forest protection and development according to Decision 5467/QD-UBND, the agricultural sector has focused on protecting over 884,000 hectares of forest, protecting 55,000 hectares, caring for nearly 20,100 hectares of forest and planting 10,000 hectares of concentrated forest. Of which, the 2012 forest planting plan only achieved 45% of the plan.
The conclusion of comrade Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: The sectors need to coordinate well to find the causes of forest fires to strictly handle them according to the law. In the coming time, the signing of coordination agreements between forces in forest fire prevention and control will be implemented; review areas where forest fires often occur and violations of forestry laws; localities must organize reviews to conduct forest allocation to households; the Forestry sector must do a good job of organizing and rotating cadres between localities. Assign the Forestry force and localities to strictly handle illegal forest product processing establishments./.
