This morning, November 1, the People's Committee of Nghe An province had a meeting and worked with the delegation of the Australian Embassy in Hanoi led by Mr. Hugh Borrowman. Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting. Also attending were leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Planning and Investment, Provincial Police, and Provincial Border Guard Command.

Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting. Comrade Ho Duc Phoc presented flowers and welcomed the ambassador.

At the meeting, Comrade Ho Duc Phoc expressed his joy at welcoming the delegation; at the same time thanked the Australian Embassy for the sponsorship of the province's vocational training project in 2011. Comrade Ho Duc Phoc hoped to continue the bilateral cooperation between Nghe An and Austrialia, to have more Australian investors and businesses invest in Nghe An with the goal of mutual benefit; to introduce Australian universities to cooperate in training with Nghe An, and to expand scholarships for students in the province. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee asked the Ambassador to introduce an Australian state or city with similar conditions to establish a sister city with Nghe An province to help each other develop; to consider the possibility of supporting the project to support machinery and equipment for rehabilitation of disabled children in Nghe An province.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hugh Borrowman - Australian Ambassador to Hanoi expressed his honor to visit Nghe An for the first time, the hometown of President Ho Chi Minh; thanked the province for the warm welcome; thanked the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his specific introduction about Nghe An. Mr. Hugh Borrowman affirmed that the relationship between the two countries was established 40 years ago and there is increasingly comprehensive and effective cooperation, especially in the fields of education, national defense and security, investment and development. As Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Hugh Borrowman pledged to further promote the cooperation between Australia and Vietnam and Nghe An province to a new level; Committed to promoting the introduction of many businesses, agencies and organizations in Australia to learn and discuss specifically with the People's Committee of Nghe An province about investment opportunities.

The Ambassador highly appreciated the idea of ​​establishing a sister relationship between Nghe An and a state or city of Australia and considered this a solid step to create momentum for exchanges, opening up opportunities for both sides; Appreciating the information about the traditions and academic achievements of Nghe An students and promised to promote educational cooperation, requesting that Australian educational institutions pay attention to and expand scholarships for Nghe An students; Considering the Project to support rehabilitation equipment for disabled children in the province...

Regarding the issue of illegal immigration, after providing some information about the situation of Vietnamese people illegally immigrating to Australia, including people from Nghe An province, Mr. Hugh Borrowman said: This is a prominent issue that both countries are concerned about and focusing on solving; At the same time, he announced the Australian Government's sanctions policy that will be applied to these illegal immigrants, and said that at the end of 2012, the Australian Police, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Vietnam Border Guard will organize training to combat illegal immigration.

Speaking at the end of the working session, comrade Ho Duc Phoc affirmed: The fight against illegal immigration is to ensure the safety of the people. Nghe An province is determined to fight against crimes of smuggling people across the border and illegal immigration with many synchronous measures. Comrade Ho Duc Phoc proposed to organize a meeting between Australian businesses and Nghe An province in Hanoi in early 2013, hoping that the Ambassador would help in inviting businesses to come; through that, the province can find investors, especially in the fields of education, health, trade, production and business.

At the meeting, the Australian Embassy delegation presented some office equipment to Nghe An Provincial Police; the Provincial People's Committee also presented souvenirs to members of the Australian Embassy delegation./.
