Nghe An Provincial People's Committee works with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
Nghe An Provincial People's Committee had a working session with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on investing in the Project to Restore and Upgrade the Northern Nghe An Irrigation System.
Comrade Ho Duc Phoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee chaired the meeting.
The project is expected to be implemented in 5 years (from 2012-2016), including upgrading and renovating the system of key works, restoring and upgrading more than 1,400 km (from the main canal to the end of the irrigation and drainage system) serving 27,656 ha of 4 districts Do Luong, Yen Thanh, Dien Chau and Quynh Luu (currently only irrigating about 19,636 ha), ensuring protection against summer-autumn floods. The main objectives of the project are to increase irrigation capacity to ensure agricultural production and improve productivity for the project areas, provide domestic water combined with the transport network and improve the ecological environment.
At the meeting, Mr. Motonori Tsuno - Chief Representative of JICA in Vietnam said: Vietnam is a very important partner country of Japan in the field of ODA capital support, and JICA is currently the agency implementing the projects. This project is designed to solve the problem of poor infrastructure. On behalf of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Ho Duc Phoc thanked JICA and pledged that the province will closely coordinate in implementing this important project.
