Nghe An Provincial People's Committee works with JICA on the project to upgrade and restore the Bac Giang irrigation system.
This morning, September 3, the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (Jica), led by Mr. Sakai Mamoru - Assistant Director of Southeast Asia Department and Mr. Saptomi June - Representative of Jica Office in Vietnam, had a working session with the People's Committee of Nghe An province on the progress of the project to restore and upgrade the irrigation system in North Nghe An.
(Baonghean) -This morning, September 3, the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Vietnam (Jica), led by Mr. Sakai Mamoru - Assistant Director of Southeast Asia Department and Mr. Saptomi June - Representative of Jica Office in Vietnam, had a working session with the People's Committee of Nghe An province on the progress of the project to restore and upgrade the irrigation system in North Nghe An.
Receiving and working with the delegation were comrades Ho Duc Phoc - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, Dinh Viet Hong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and leaders of a number of departments and branches.
The North Nghe An irrigation system is the largest irrigation system in the province, providing irrigation and domestic water for the key rice production and industrial areas of Nghe An province. Due to being put into use for 75 years, the construction items have now degraded. To support the economic development of the North Nghe An region, the restoration and upgrading of the North Nghe An irrigation project is very necessary. In addition to improving productivity for 27,000 hectares of rice in the four districts of Do Luong, Yen Thanh, Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, this project also contributes to responding to climate change and rising sea levels. The project was established in July 2010, and the basic investment project documents have now been completed. The project will be implemented in 5 years, starting from 2013, with a total investment of 4,630 billion VND, of which the loan capital from the Japanese Government is 200 million USD and mobilized from other legal sources of capital.
At the working session with the delegation, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Duc Phoc hoped that JICA in Vietnam would consider, survey and research to soon carry out investment. Nghe An province will create the most favorable conditions for Japanese expert delegations and investors to work and invest in Nghe An.
The JICA delegation highly appreciated Nghe An’s efforts in implementing the project. The delegation also prepared arguments to advise the Japanese Government on the necessity of investing in this project and the benefits that the project will bring. It is expected that this project will be included in the investment portfolio in 2012.
