According to the separatists, 14 of their fighters and five civilians have been killed in the past 24 hours. The Kiev government said five Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the fighting.
A senior commander of the separatist forces fighting against government troops, Eduar Basurin, told AFP that about 24 of his soldiers and 86 civilians were wounded.
The sides are now accusing each other of breaking the peace deal, causing fighting to flare up.
On June 3, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Ukrainian forces of "provocative actions" as the cause of the new outbreak of fighting in eastern Ukraine, and said Moscow was deeply concerned about the shelling of civilians in the area.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said that the separatist forces' military operations right before the Group of Seven (G-7) Summit in Germany once again violated the Minsk Agreement on resolving the situation in Eastern Ukraine and also expressed hope that at the G-7 conference "the international community will have an appropriate assessment of Russia's actions."
