Ukraine is predicted to have the same fate as Cuba
(Baonghean.vn)- Russia and the US will find a way out of the current situation surrounding Ukraine, a country that is at risk of repeating Cuba's fate after the Cuban missile crisis. This is the opinion of Croatian analyst Zoran Meter posted on Geopolitika.
The author is confident that the US and NATO will not use their armed forces in the event of a Russian "invasion".UkraineHowever, according to Meter, Moscow has made it clear that it has no plans to conduct military operations in the neighboring country unless Kiev begins an offensive operation in Donbass or deploys NATO forces on its territory. The journalist believes that Washington needs to keep a tight grip on the Ukrainian state and its military leadership.

In addition, according to him, the situation in Ukraine is dangerous: There are many political forces in the country that want to seize power in Kiev and solve the Donbass problem by force. The author added: "These political adventurers will ultimately decide the fate of Ukraine and its future." In his opinion, if these forces can come to power in Ukraine and the US cannot "pacify" them, a new war will break out and then Russia will have to intervene.
The Croatian journalist also called for help for Ukrainian President Zelenskiy to calm the extremists in the country. According to Mr. Meter, the head of Ukraine has no way to oppose them, although he promised to become a "peaceful president". Journalist Meter is sure that President Zelenskiy has lost the support of some groups loyal to him, and has not won the sympathy of extremists in Ukraine.
Mr. Meter emphasized that Russia is ready to dialogue with the US to get security guarantees for itself. On the contrary, the US needs to clearly define its interests with Russia in the context of Washington's confrontation with Beijing. Journalist Meter affirmed that Ukraine only plays the role of a driving force to promote negotiations between the leaders of the two superpowers.
“The Ukraine crisis plays a similar role for US-Russia relations as the Cuban missile crisis did for US-Soviet relations,” said Meter. According to the journalist, Russia and the US have now switched places in the above “diagram,” and Ukraine has taken the place of Cuba. However, Meter expressed optimism that the parties will find a way out of the crisis. “In the best case scenario, if Kiev is not smart enough to avoid this, Ukraine will find itself in the position of Cuba today,” the journalist concluded.
