He said that Gazprom's refusal to extend the contract to supply gas to Ukraine makes the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project a threat to European energy security.
Previously, the heads of parliaments of Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine and Moldova spoke out against Nord Stream 2 and demanded that European countries "actively participate in discussions on preserving the safety and transparency of the EU energy market."
Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov said the call was "out of helplessness and anger."
