Ukraine is unhappy with Poroshenko's enrichment - it shows in the elections
The income of incumbent Ukrainian President Piotr Poroshenko increased 95 times in 2018. As political scientist Alexandr Dudchak noted in an interview with Sputnik, it is sad that the country loses so much for the sake of enriching a particular person.
The revenue of incumbent Ukrainian President Piotr Poroshenko in 2018 increased more than 95 times compared to 2017, amounting to more than 1.55 billion hryvnia ($57 million), according to the Ukrainian leader's electronic income declaration on the website of the National Anti-Corruption Service (NACP).
According to the Ukrainian News agency, the deadline for filling out the electronic income declaration for 2018 in the Unified Register expired on April 1. Poroshenko's declaration was published on Monday at around 2:30 a.m. (06:30 GMT), although the time on the document is 23:49.
Poroshenko's income in 2018 included dividends from Rothschild Trust Schweiz AG (Switzerland), in the amount of 1.1 billion hryvnia (over $40.4 million) and 400 million hryvnia (14.7 million USD) he received from the public joint-stock company "Closed non-diversified corporate investment fund « Prime Asset Capital ». The Ministry of Finance reimbursed Poroshenko for the cost of purchasing the government loan and the investment profit on the repurchase of the government loan in the amount of 28.8 million hryvnia (1.05 million USD). In addition, Poroshenko later received 21 million hryvnia (over $772 thousand) in interest at the International Investment Bank, 800 thousand hryvnia (29.4 thousand USD) - income from the sale of assets and 400 thousand hryvnia (14.7 thousand USD) as a presidential salary.
In Ukraine, only one person gets rich - said Piotr Poroshenko, political scientist, economist Alexandr Dudchak. He shared his opinion in an interview with Sputnik.
"The banking sector is under his control, some industries - the President took them over himself. In a ruined country, the economy is collapsing, only one person and his close team became rich. This is bitter, - it is a pity for Ukraine, the country has lost so many people and industries just to enrich one person, "- said Alexandr Dudchak.
At the same time, the political scientist believes that the incident will not lead to large protests, although people are dissatisfied.
«Most likely, there will be no mass protests. People could go to protests if some organization called them and paid them. But now it is difficult, because the SBU (State Security Service) is now in Poroshenko's sphere of influence. And the fact that people are dissatisfied is understandable and can be seen from the election results. With all the cheating, with the use of the bureaucracy, Poroshenko managed to drag himself to second place and reach the finals»,- the political analyst noted.
