Ukraine: Donetsk region declares formation of parliament

The self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" in eastern Ukraine has announced the establishment of its own supreme legislative body, local media reported, Xinhua reported.

Mr. Myroslav Rudenko - one of the leaders of this "republican government" said on May 14 that this Supreme Soviet body consists of 150 deputies.

The results of the referendum in Donetsk showed that about 90% of the votes were in favor of autonomy. (Source: AFP/VNA)

The first session of this body adopted a resolution on the draft Constitution and established a security council.

According to the draft Constitution, the Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet would be elected by the deputies and would serve as the president of the republic.

Candidates for this position will be discussed in the next few days./.
