The United Nations on June 12 welcomed Türkiye's move to open its border to receive Syrian refugees.

The head of the UN Refugee Agency in Syria, Carol Batchelor, said Türkiye was the only country to declare an open border policy. This was a very impressive move and received strong support from the UN Refugee Agency.

Ms. Batchelor added that Türkiye's open border policy is implemented consistently from local authorities. Türkiye is ready to welcome at least 8,000 Syrians who have fled their country due to the intense conflict. According to Ms. Batchelor, the UN Refugee Agency is ready to cooperate with Türkiye to support Syrian refugees.

The wave of protests and clashes between the Syrian government army and opposition forces has caused about 5,000 people to evacuate to Türkiye. In the Turkish border province of Hatay, local authorities have set up more than 600 temporary tents for Syrian refugees. In addition, more than 6,000 blankets, 3,000 beds... have been sent to areas with Syrian refugees.

Meanwhile, the European Union fears that the worsening conflict will lead to a humanitarian crisis in Syria. The European Union has called on Syria to allow international aid agencies into the country to help civilians suffering from the increasing violence.
