UNESCO awarded the Gold Prize to teacher Ngo Thanh Can
On the afternoon of December 10, Mr. Ho Bach Khoa, Head of the Management Board of the Nguyen Du National Special Relic Site, Tien Dien Commune, Nghi Xuan District, Ha Tinh Province, said that the UNESCO Association for the Preservation of Vietnamese Ethnic Culture (under the Vietnam Union of UNESCO Associations) had just held a ceremony to honor and award the 2013 gold prize for Chau Van ritual survey to shaman Ngo Thanh Can, head of the Truong Bat Temple, in Village 1, Ngoc Son Commune, Thach Ha District, Ha Tinh.
Teacher Ngo Thanh Can won the gold prize in the first survey of Vietnamese Chau Van rituals organized by the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations in May 2013 at the Tien Son Historical and Cultural Relic Complex (Trung Luong Ward, Hong Linh Town, Ha Tinh Province).
This time, the UNESCO Association for the Preservation of Vietnamese Ethnic Culture also conducted the first round of surveys on 7 mediums in Ha Tinh and Nghe An provinces to gradually preserve and promote the Chau Van ritual, one of the typical intangible cultural heritages of the Vietnamese people, in the right direction.
