According to the 2009 population and housing census, Vietnamese youth aged 10-30 account for about 40% of the population and play an increasingly important role in the quality of Vietnam's human resources.

Young people are the future of the country. Investing in young people not only helps them develop their potential, but also contributes to the socio-economic development of the country.

The project "Supporting capacity to implement the Vietnam Youth Development Strategy 2011-2020" was implemented nationwide from 2012-2016 with the support of the United Nations Population Fund in Vietnam, with a total non-refundable ODA capital of 900,000 USD and counterpart capital of more than 3 billion VND.

The project beneficiaries are youth and adolescents, especially vulnerable groups such as migrant youth, unmarried youth, out-of-school youth, youth living in disadvantaged and mountainous areas.

The project contributes to the implementation of the Vietnam Youth Development Strategy through cross-sectoral coordination and advocacy for evidence-based policy implementation and youth engagement to address unmet youth needs in reproductive health care, HIV prevention and gender-based violence.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Tran Anh Tuan assessed the goals and targets of the Vietnam Youth Development Strategy for the 2011-2020 period, showing that youth development is the driving force to ensure the country's sustainable development.

The project contributes to addressing one of the important youth issues, which is the unmet needs of youth as well as promoting youth participation in policy making.

UNFPA Acting Representative in Vietnam, Ms. Mandeep K.O'Brien, said that youth policies must be implemented at all levels so that youth and vulnerable groups can enjoy the rights they need.

To do this, UNFPA commits to supporting scientific research on the reproductive health needs of adolescents; advocating and implementing policies to enhance the capacity of government agencies on youth work and coordinating with the health and labor sectors to address the needs of youth. At the same time, promoting youth participation to ensure the success of the project.

The project "Supporting capacity to implement the Vietnam Youth Development Strategy for the period 2011-2020" is chaired by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The National Assembly's Committee for Culture, Education, Youth, Adolescents and Children and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union are the two agencies co-implementing the Project with technical support from UNFPA./.
