Application of technology in wooden shipbuilding
(Baonghean.vn) Building wooden fishing boats is a long-standing traditional profession in many coastal districts of Nghe An. This profession has a brand name and attracts customers from many other provinces and cities.
Nghe An province currently has 63 establishments for building and converting fishing vessels, concentrated in areas with developed fishing industries such as Quynh Nghia, Tien Thuy - Quynh Luu, Trung Kien - Nghi Thiet Shipbuilding Village, especially Hai Chau Shipbuilding One Member Co., Ltd., Trung Do Ward - Vinh City. The shipbuilding establishments have made many contributions to the development of the province's fishing capacity, building many new offshore fishing vessels, creating jobs for a part of the people. However, shipbuilders are mainly relying on experience, not applying science and technology to shipbuilding.
Based on that reality, the project "Application of wooden fishing boat design technology in Nghe An province" was approved by the Department of Science and Technology and the implementation contract was signed. The project was led by Engineer - Senior Specialist Nguyen Chi Luong (Department of Fisheries Exploitation and Protection), with the implementation period from October 2010 to November 2011.
Shipbuilding in our province is mainly based on experience.
Nghe An Department of Fisheries Exploitation and Conservation has researched and found that currently the Faculty of Ship Engineering - Nha Trang University has fishing vessel design software that meets the requirements to solve difficulties in shipbuilding. Based on the requirements and criteria, the Project has selected the Faculty of Ship Engineering, Nha Trang University as the technology transfer unit. The transferred software is from the research results of the Ministry-level Project "Research on optimal design of contour lines to meet the diverse needs of Vietnamese fishing vessels" by Dr. Tran Gia Thai, Faculty of Ship Engineering, Nha Trang University.
The project has organized training and experience exchange between technology transfer units, organized 2 training courses on technology transfer and software for designing wooden fishing boats with a capacity of 90 to 600CV for 7 people, with a duration of 15 days at the Nghe An Department of Fisheries Exploitation and Protection. Completed the construction of 10 sets of traditional wooden fishing boat designs for Nghe An province with a capacity of 90 to 250CV corresponding to the fishing professions: trawl, purse seine, dragline, and casting. Implemented the design and construction of new wooden fishing boats for ship owner Tran Xuan Thu, Dai Bac hamlet - Quynh Long - Quynh Luu - Nghe An, with a capacity of 500CV for purse seine fishing. The fishing boats were designed to meet technical standards, in accordance with regulations and were constructed in accordance with regulations. The construction process was checked for safety accuracy, tested long distances, and shipped to ensure quality, which was highly appreciated by the people. After launching, the ship's operations at sea always ensured good stability, solid structure and high operational efficiency. The acceptance council classified the project as excellent.
The project has completed the objectives, content and quality requirements of the main product according to the contract. The software has been installed on the computers as required, works well, 7 staff have been trained and proficiently use the transferred software.
The success of the project is the application of new scientific and technological advances to the design of wooden fishing boats, ensuring accuracy and avoiding mechanical errors compared to previous manual design methods. Using the project's products in the design of wooden fishing boats locally helps shorten construction time, save materials and costs, reduce product prices, and give people more choices in shipbuilding. New building and conversion facilities for fishing boats throughout the province have really changed their thinking about building ships according to design, and the qualifications of the workforce have been improved. In addition, the scientific capacity of the presiding agency, state management agencies and officers participating in the project has been improved.
