Application of probiotics in animal feed processing

(Baonghean) - Through practical surveys, it shows that in recent years, families and farms are tending to use 100% mixed feed in raising livestock and poultry.

That result reflects the encouraging progress of the feed processing industry in livestock farming. But because the price of animal feed is still too high, the paradox is that the more industrial feed farmers use, the lower their profits and sometimes even lose money. Meanwhile, the most positive factor that can help farmers reduce costs to the maximum and have the highest profits is to exploit (buy on the spot), take advantage of (family) available raw materials to process feed.

Currently, the Government and localities have had many policies for animal feed processing enterprises to reduce input prices to reduce animal feed prices. However, in general, animal feed prices are still high while the current output price of meat products makes it difficult for farmers to make a profit. This is probably the biggest reason why farmers limit the number of livestock and many households have quit the profession (especially pig farming). If this situation is not recognized by sectors, levels, and animal feed processing enterprises to find solutions to overcome and share, the livestock industry will not achieve its development goals and the animal feed processing industry will also find it difficult to have a stable market.

From the above reality, recently some research and model transfer agencies... have recommended that livestock farmers apply some methods of processing and mixing ingredients in feed rations effectively, ensuring that livestock farmers make a profit.

In Nghe An province, with the approval of the Department of Science and Technology, the research group of the provincial-level scientific topic on: "Application of microbiological technology in processing and preserving animal feed (buffalo, cow, pig) from corn in Nghe An" has built a number of experimental models in a number of localities (main point in Thanh Ngoc commune, Thanh Chuong district). Through the results achieved from the models, we would like to introduce some effective feed mixing methods in current animal husbandry as follows:

Exploiting and using about 70% of local raw materials for fermentation and mixing with about 30% of industrial concentrated feed. In reality, every day, many types of agricultural products and by-products after harvest, if exposed to unfavorable weather and not dried, will be spoiled and a huge waste. But if through microbial yeast technology, those raw materials can be processed and preserved, they can be used for up to a year. The specific method is as follows:

Agricultural products after harvest can be used as raw materials for processing into animal feed for families or bought at rural markets, such as tubers (corn, cassava, potatoes, etc.), vegetables of all kinds, etc. (including cassava leaves, etc.), ensuring the quality is not moldy, steamed, or has a strange smell, then washed; each type of raw material is chopped (depending on the scale, a machine can be used to chop or slice); then use strains of probiotics (Super Bio) mixed well in a ratio of about 1-10, put in a plastic bag, suck out all the air in the bag, tie it tightly, put it in a warehouse or a dry place, after 7-10 days it is used as animal feed.

Depending on the availability of local raw materials to determine the mixing level, but it is best to use about 70% of the mixture of fermented feeds mixed with about 30% of industrial concentrated feed to make rations for livestock. Concentrated feeds are provided by livestock feed processing factories; feeds include processed and fermented local raw materials mixed by farmers themselves to create as many types of feed mixtures as possible. For the strain of probiotics (Super Bio), just buy 1kg (already sold in communes implementing the model), follow the above process, farmers will get 10kg and from there can produce for use according to demand.

With the above method, people can exploit the maximum source of local raw materials to mix into animal feed. However, depending on the conditions and ability to exploit and utilize local raw materials, people can decide the mixing ratio, can use up to 100% of fermented feed mixed on the spot for livestock and can also use a ratio of 50 - 50... but certainly the higher the ratio of homemade feed, the more limited the ability to balance nutrition and minerals in the feed ration. Therefore, people should use a proportion of concentrated industrial feed, then mix some types of homemade fermented feed (as instructed above), ensuring to create a mixture that is both cheap, good quality, and can use available food of the family.
