Applying e-commerce to exports

August 22, 2013 15:52

The context of the global and domestic economic crisis has led to a shrinking market for Vietnamese craft villages, resulting in a surplus of unsold goods in many places.

- The application of e-commerce to exports is becoming a new channel that is expected to be highly effective in bringing these products further into the global market.

Recognizing the benefits of e-commerce, since the 2000s, Hoa Lu Handicraft Company has applied e-commerce to promote its products. According to company representatives, applying e-commerce to product promotion helps businesses gain rich information about customers and the market, reducing sales and marketing costs. In addition, it significantly reduces transaction time and costs, and facilitates the establishment and strengthening of relationships with customers worldwide.

Ms. Nguyen Tu Anh, Deputy General Director of Hoa Lu Handicraft Joint Stock Company, said that while e-commerce was still unfamiliar to many businesses in the years 2000 and 2002, they boldly invested in a website with complete information about the company's operations and scale. In addition, they have also actively participated in e-commerce platforms such as vatgia.com, chodientu.vn, and international platforms like Alibaba.com…

"Currently, we are exporting to the Japanese, American, and European markets. Recently, through e-commerce, we signed a contract worth nearly 8 billion VND with a customer from Japan. This demonstrates that e-commerce is a transformative tool for our business in particular, as well as for Vietnamese export businesses in general," Ms. Tu Anh affirmed.

E-commerce applications are clearly one of the most effective tools for businesses to promote their products and seek export orders. However, according to experts, not many businesses and craft village associations are currently able to fully utilize the advantages that e-commerce offers.

Therefore, the effectiveness of this sales channel has not been as expected. The reason is believed to be that the information about the goods provided is still monotonous and does not accurately reflect the actual products or customer needs.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Tran Dinh Toan, Deputy General Director of OSB Investment and Technology Joint Stock Company, said that currently there are quite a few websites introducing products from craft villages, but they seem very scattered and some introductions are somewhat poetic and unconvincing to customers. Customers reading information about history is one thing; what's important is that they want to know where the product is located, who to contact to buy it, which business, and what the price is, rather than the general information on current websites.
