Supporting his daughter's divorce, father-in-law was hacked to death by his son-in-law who broke in at midnight

Angry because Mr. Manh supported his daughter's divorce, Nguyen Nhu Lieu (born in 1985, in Ha Dong district, Hanoi) had the idea of ​​beating his father-in-law to vent his anger. Thinking of that, he immediately went to the kitchen to get a knife, then ran to his father-in-law's house, climbed over the wall and committed the crime.

On December 14, the Hanoi People's Court brought defendant Nguyen Nhu Lieu (born in 1985, in Ha Dong district, Hanoi) to trial for the crime of "Murder". The victim in the case is Lieu's father-in-law - Mr. Nguyen Dinh Manh.

Carrying a knife to beat father-in-law because of broken marriage

According to the case file, after 6 years of living together, Lieu and his wife (Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Hang, born in 1994) had conflicts. Unable to reconcile and live together, they filed for divorce in the district court. After that, Ms. Hang took her eldest daughter to live with her parents nearby. But since the marriage had problems, Lieu and his father-in-law's family often had conflicts and arguments. During these conflicts, Lieu once even held a knife and threatened to hit Mr. Nguyen Dinh Manh - Lieu's father-in-law.

On the evening of September 4, 2016, Lieu's family invited his brothers and children to come over for dinner and drinks. Seeing that, Lieu went to his father-in-law's house to pick up his eldest daughter to come over and eat with him. After finishing eating and drinking, at around 8:30 p.m., Lieu took his motorbike and took his two daughters and niece named Ngoc to Mr. Manh's house. At the end of the alley, Ngoc led Lieu's two children into the house and told Hang: "Auntie, let the two of them stay here. Uncle Lieu will be working far away for a month before he returns." After saying that, Ngoc left with Lieu.

On the way home, Lieu thought about Mr. Manh supporting his daughter's divorce, so he got angry and decided to beat his father-in-law to vent his anger. Thinking about that, Lieu went into the kitchen, took a big knife that he usually used to chop bones, put it in the frame of his motorbike, and rode to his father-in-law's house. When he reached his father-in-law's gate, Lieu parked his motorbike at the end of the alley, took the knife and went inside. Seeing that the gate was locked but the lights were still on inside the house, Lieu climbed over the fence to get in.

Prison for life for killing father-in-law

While sitting in the living room, Mrs. Hong (Mr. Manh's wife) heard the sound of a motorbike so she opened the door and looked out. Seeing Lieu climbing the wall into the yard, this woman immediately woke up her husband. Seeing that, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Huy (born in 1996 - Mr. Manh's son) went out to the yard to see if it was Lieu. Confirming that it was Lieu, Mr. Huy asked: "What are you doing here?" Hearing that, Lieu said: "You already know, why are you asking?", then Lieu rushed into the house and went straight to Mr. Manh's bedroom.

Seeing his ex-father-in-law coming out of the room, holding a long iron pipe in his hand, Lieu rushed forward and swung his knife, hitting Mr. Manh in the chest and abdomen. Being slashed, Mr. Manh shouted and rushed forward to hug Lieu, wrestling them out into the yard through the side door. Hearing his father's shout, Huy ran out to see what was happening. Seeing Lieu lying under his father but still holding the knife in his hand, Huy ran to the nearby water tank and used a mop to repeatedly hit Lieu's right hand.

When the mop broke, Huy threw it away and grabbed a nearby cleaver, slashing Lieu's right hand repeatedly. Being slashed back, Lieu raised his arms to cover his head and pulled his legs up, so Huy slashed him twice more in the legs. Huy only stopped when he heard Mr. Manh say, "Okay, take dad to the emergency room."

Despite being rushed to the emergency room, Mr. Manh died due to severe injuries. Meanwhile, Lieu was also taken to the Ha Dong General Hospital by relatives. On September 14, 2016, Lieu was discharged from the hospital and surrendered to the police. Authorities determined that Lieu suffered 10% injuries.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Huy used a mop and a knife to slash Lieu's arms and legs, causing 10% injury, but the authorities determined that Mr. Huy's attack on Lieu was intended to prevent Lieu from attacking Mr. Manh. After seeing Lieu drop the knife, Mr. Huy stopped attacking. Mr. Huy's actions were considered a case of self-defense, so the investigation agency did not mention any handling of the case.

Regarding Ms. Hong, Lieu stated that this woman and her son used a weapon to beat him, but he himself could not determine what weapon Ms. Hong used. Besides Lieu's statement, there were no other documents to prove it, so there was not enough basis to handle the case.

Present at the trial on December 14 at the Hanoi People's Court, Lieu confessed to the events as charged in the indictment. Realizing that the defendant's actions were dangerous to society, causing public panic, and that he killed his father-in-law out of anger, after deliberation, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced Lieu to life in prison for "Murder".
