According to AFP, RFI and TNHK, the 2012 race to the White House between outgoing President Barack Obama and opponent Mitt Romney has entered the final stage.

Three weeks before the election, the two candidates on October 16 "faced off" in a second decisive televised debate to convince American voters.

The debate, which will be televised live, begins at 1 a.m. GMT (early morning Hanoi time). The studio has been set at Hofstra University in Hempstead, a location 40 kilometers from New York.

The debate is expected to last about 90 minutes. The format of this debate is slightly different from the first one in Denver (Colorado), in that in addition to questions from CNN reporter Candy Crowley, some audience members will also have questions for the two candidates.

After the "first round" on October 3rd was considered "weaker" than his opponent, candidate Obama seemed determined to regain the advantage in this "second round".

Meanwhile, candidate Romney will have to find a way to assert his rising position and convince American voters that he is qualified to become the 45th president of the United States.

The topic of the second debate was US domestic and foreign policy. In this area, according to observers, candidate Mitt Romney had the opportunity to attack his opponent on the Libya issue after the US Consulate in Benghazi was attacked on September 11, resulting in the death of the US ambassador.

In that incident, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced on October 15 that she was the person primarily responsible.

After the televised debate in Denver, candidate Obama has lost about four points in national polls of voting intentions. According to the latest polls, the two candidates are roughly tied.

The two candidates will have a third live debate on October 22 in Florida./.
