USGS: Magnitude 6.0 earthquake shakes Japan

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) announced on August 20 that a magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred about 167 km east-northeast of Miyako Island, Japan.

The epicenter, at a depth of 10km, was initially determined at 40.3564 degrees North latitude and 143.6799 degrees East longitude.

Earlier, on the afternoon of August 19 (Hanoi time), a 7.4-magnitude earthquake also shook the British territory of South Georgia in the South Atlantic.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 km, 316 km from the British Antarctic research station.

Meanwhile, the China Earthquake Networks Center said the magnitude of this earthquake was 7.5 on the Richter scale.
