Thailand's Election Commission proposes discussion with prime minister
On February 9, the Election Commission (EC) of Thailand said it would invite caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to discuss solutions to the situation at 28 polling stations where no candidates registered to run.
Thailand's Bangkok Post quoted EC Secretary General Puchong Nutrawong as saying that the commission will send a letter to caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck before February 11 to request the government to issue a royal decree to set a new election date.

In a related development, the National Security Council expects that the protests and marches launched by the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) will not be able to last until Songkran (next April) as PDRC threatened, because the financial supply to PDRC supporters has been blocked by Thai authorities.
Previously, on February 6, the Thai government said it would establish a 12-member task force to arrest 19 PDRC leaders under the order of the country's Criminal Court.
Meanwhile, the Thai Peace and Order Maintenance Center also said it is seeking arrest warrants for 39 other PDRC leaders for violating the state of emergency./.
