Nam Can and Ta Ca are complex areas, not only with a long border but also with an international border gate passing through, so the task of Station 539 is even more difficult. In addition to patrolling, identifying raising people's awareness as an important premise to protect border security, the Station has coordinated with units to produce border news broadcast programs, organize border law teaching in schools, and establish inter-unit youth unions to promote propaganda activities. Thanks to that, the border commune of Nam Can is increasingly developing.
Ky Son has 192 km of border adjacent to Laos, with 10 border guard force points. At key border posts, the force has been strengthened so that border security is maintained. In 2011, Sub-region 50 coordinated with the posts, Laos, and local authorities to organize 83 border and landmark patrols; coordinated with other forces to arrest 10 cases of proselytizing, border crossing and 24 cases of illegal migration, destroyed 1 opium plantation, arrested 19 drug trafficking cases, and mobilized people to hand over over 250 homemade guns. In addition to the struggle, propaganda work is also focused on. Border guards stationed in the villages eat, live and work with the people. They have directly helped people build their economic and cultural lives. Mr. Lau Ba Chay - Secretary of Nam Can commune said: "The commune Party Committee and the station Party Committee have a coordination regulation, from which monthly and weekly meetings are held to resolve outstanding issues among the people. In terms of economy, the station also helps the commune to build some models such as lilies, thereby reducing the difficulties of the people of Nam Can."
During the historic flood in June 2011, border guards accompanied the people, wading through floodwaters to protect their lives and property. And they themselves were the main force helping people rebuild after the flood, examining and providing free medicine to people in the Bac Ly flood area. To help people escape hunger, border guards instructed people on how to grow rice, raise chickens and pigs. Together they contributed to helping people build solidarity houses and boarding houses for students.
Border guards are also teachers for the people, helping them build houses and clear roads... Words go hand in hand with actions, and gradually people's awareness has changed. People trust the Border Guard, actively participate in the movement to protect border security, stay alert to the enemy's sabotage plots at the border and abroad, and do not assist criminals. Lieutenant Colonel Chau Van Thao - Head of Sub-region 50 added: "In 2011, the sub-region's border guards did a good job of advising, directing and urging patrol units to perform well the task of protecting border security. The force did a good job of protecting the border, landmarks, and foreign affairs."
Present at the remote border of the country, the soldiers in green uniforms not only protect border security but they also contribute to the prosperity of the border area. Close to the people, understanding and loving the people, they have united with the government and the people to build an increasingly strong border defense position.
