Still not cured of "achievement" disease
(Baonghean) - Recently, the media has continuously reported on cases of illiterate students still going to grade 4, reflecting that 5 students of Thanh Van Primary School, Thanh Van Commune, Thanh Chuong District (a school that met national standards in 2002) could not read or write but still went to the next grade. The article clearly mentioned the case of Nguyen Thi Le, who "was allowed to attend summer school to go to grade 4 but could not write or read". Le's father was upset, questioned the school and asked for his child to be allowed to repeat grade 1 but was not approved. On Saturday evening, February 15, VTV news also had a report about the case of primary school students at this school who were about to finish grade 3 but could hardly read or write.

The story in Thanh Van is not an isolated one. The writer of this article, more than 6 years ago, during a field trip, accidentally “saw and heard” in a classroom at Quy Hop Mountain Secondary School, only less than 3 kilometers from the district center and the Department of Education and Training. The traffic is quite convenient, but some students of this school have studied up to grade 9 but still cannot read or write fluently. People call them “sitting in the wrong class”.
So the story at Thanh Van Primary School, Thanh Chuong District or even some secondary school students in Quy Hop District is not an uncommon one in the Education and Training sector of Nghe An. It is known that not long ago, similar stories were also discovered in Kien Giang, Bac Giang... It can be affirmed that this consequence is due to the disease of achievement. Some opinions say that these diseases clearly show special dangers, leaving serious consequences for the young generation and the community. That is the irresponsibility of those who do the work of "cultivating people".
Recently, the Education and Training sector has declared war on the disease of achievements through the "Two No's" campaign. Although it has taken drastic action on a large scale, there are still lurking cases of cheating, and the chronic disease of "achievements" has not been completely cured.
