Van Dien "reached the finish line" of new rural areas from non-agricultural sector
(Baonghean) - Although it is a locality with an agricultural starting point, the main resources for Van Dien commune (Nam Dan) to reach the NTM finish line are mobilized from non-agricultural industries.
Resilience from labor structure shift
Last October, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee signed a Decision recognizing Van Dien commune as meeting new rural standards. It is worth mentioning that although it started out as an agricultural commune, the main driving force for completing new rural construction in Van Dien came from other industries. These are labor export, sideline jobs and trading.

Mr. Nguyen Van Long, the head of Quy Chinh 2 hamlet, is completing procedures to borrow money for his son to go abroad to work at the headquarters of Van Dien People's Credit Fund. He said: Quy Chinh 2 hamlet has 161 households, of which about 100 households have members going abroad to work. According to current statistics, Van Dien commune has nearly 900 workers working in 12 countries around the world, most of them are Taiwan and Japan.
Over the years, thousands of people have borrowed capital from the Van Dien People's Credit Fund to go abroad to work and have all paid their loans on time. Currently, the outstanding debt of the labor export loan source accounts for about 10% of the total outstanding debt, equivalent to nearly 10 billion VND.

Another effective direction of labor transfer in Van Dien is to promote the development of secondary occupations, notably the vermicelli and Quy Chinh cake craft village which has affirmed its brand and the construction profession.
With reasonable and effective labor transfer orientations, out of a total of more than 5,300 laborers of working age, Van Dien has 93% of laborers with regular jobs. Average income per capita also increased rapidly from 18 million VND in 2010 to an estimated 33 million VND/year by the end of 2015. The current poverty rate is 3.54%.
Breakthrough from internal strength
In the construction of new rural areas in Van Dien, the people's resources contributed a value of up to nearly 78 billion VND, accounting for nearly 55% of the total mobilized funds.
In addition to contributing funds to build roads, cultural houses, and along hamlet roads, people in inter-family groups also contribute money to build covered drainage ditches.

“Thanks to promoting democracy and the proactiveness of the Party Committee and the people at the grassroots level, the mobilization of internal resources in Van Dien has been very successful. Not only did local residents contribute, but we also mobilized children far from home to join hands in building their homeland with a total amount of more than 6.3 billion VND,” affirmed comrade Tran Ba Minh, Secretary of the Van Dien Commune Party Committee./.
