Van Quyet: 'The injury storm is a consequence of V-League, not because of Miura'

The 2014 Vietnam Silver Ball spoke up to defend coach Toshiya Miura, saying that the training plan that the Japanese strategist gave was not too harsh.

“Each coach has a different working method, as professional players we have to adapt. Personally, I think the exercises that Coach Miura gives are not too difficult,” Van Quyet shared. “The players getting injured could be due to poor physical condition or the result of a long period of playing in the V-League. This is an unexpected event, Coach Miura cannot be blamed.”

U23 Vietnam had to remove two players from the list due to injuries, Hoang Thinh and Van Long. Currently, the team has seven players who are injured: Tuan Anh, Phi Son, Hoang Lam, Thanh Hien, Ngoc Thang, Tan Tai and Huy Hung. Meanwhile, in the national team, coach Miura had to call up Quang Hai and Mai Tien Thanh to replace two injured players: Thanh Luong and Hoang Quang. Currently, the team also has many players who cannot practice normally: Michal Nguyen, Khanh Lam, Hai Anh, Huy Cuong... Coach Miura was criticized for giving too heavy a training program and always pushing the players to play fiercely in both training and friendly matches, leading to a series of injuries.

The mainstay of the Vietnam U23 team, Vo Huy Toan, also spoke up to defend his coach. The midfielder, who is currently playing for Da Nang, said: “Coach Miura instructed us to play hard but not recklessly. The reason why a series of players got injured is because we were greedy for the ball and sometimes played too hard. In the upcoming friendly matches, when we encounter dangerous situations, we will probably have to avoid them.”

On May 17, the Vietnamese team will have a friendly match with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at Cam Pha Stadium. Four days later, Coach Miura and his team will go to Bangkok to prepare for the match with Thailand in the second qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup.

“Thailand is a very strong opponent, they have dominated Southeast Asian football in recent years. However, the Vietnamese team is not weak. If we concentrate fully and play with high spirit, we can absolutely make a difference,” Van Quyet commented on the match.

At the 28th SEA Games, U23 Vietnam was also in the same group with U23 Thailand. Player Vo Huy Toan said that this was the most formidable opponent for him and his teammates at the tournament taking place in Singapore.
