Van Toan donates all his Fairplay bonus to a female colleague whose mother has cancer.

“Women’s football is always disadvantaged, but you always give your all, regardless of the sun, rain, hardships, and sacrifice your youth to bring glory to the Fatherland. Therefore, I really admire you,” Van Toan shared after he gave all of his 40 million VND bonus to female player Tran Thi Thuy Trang. “I only contribute a small part of my personal contribution to support you and hope that everyone needs to pay more attention to women’s football.”

At the Fairplay 2017 award ceremony on March 14, Van Toan won the highest award. This award is a recognition of this striker's fairplay actions. In the match in V-League 2017 with Thanh Hoa at Pleiku Stadium on April 8, 2017, dissatisfied with the referee's management, some HAGL players and the coaching staff, the team leader intended to leave the match in protest.

Seeing that, Van Toan ran out to the sideline to put the ball into play, he pulled his teammates back onto the field and advised the coach and officials to leave the field so the match could continue. At the end of that match, HAGL lost 2-3, but the action of this striker is what deserves praise.

Meanwhile, female player Thuy Trang showed her filial piety to her mother who had stomach cancer. She wiped away her tears and the pain her mother was suffering to play her best, helping the Vietnamese women's football team win the SEA Games gold medal. Afterwards, the girl from Quang Ngai sent all the prize money she received home for her mother's treatment. That action helped this striker be voted for third place in the fair play award.

“I really admire Van Toan. He is not only a talented professional but also an emotional person who always cares about others,” Thuy Trang said emotionally after receiving 40 million VND from the HAGL Club striker. “I wish you good luck and advancement in your career.”

Other individuals and groups named in the award include Coach Mai Duc Chung, Coach Nguyen Minh Phuong (Da Nang), Vietnam futsal team... In addition, Park Hang-seo and the Vietnam U23 team were honored at the award ceremony. The Hanoi "amateur" tournament organizers and businesswoman Huynh Trang Nhi were also recognized for their contributions to Vietnamese football.
