Van Toan, Van Duc, Van Thanh... not allowed to attend SEA Games 2019?
At SEA Games 2019, players born in 1996 like Van Toan, Van Duc... may not be able to participate.
The 2017 SEA Games held in Malaysia recently, the host country applied a special rule, which was to send the U22 team to participate in men's football. According to Malaysia's explanation, they wanted the U22 team to participate in the SEA Games at that time to prepare for the 2018 AFC U23 Championship. This is also reasonable, because the U22 team is qualified to participate in the U23 tournament taking place 1 year later.

Similarly, after the 2019 SEA Games, the 2020 AFC U23 Championship will take place in Thailand. This is an important tournament, so it is likely that the host country of the 2019 SEA Games, the Philippines, will keep the rule of sending the U22 team to participate in men's football.
If the above regulation is kept, the generation of players born in 1996 will not be able to participate in the 2019 SEA Games. This is very regrettable, because then Duy Manh (Hanoi), Van Duc (SLNA), Van Toan or Van Thanh (HAGL) will not be eligible to participate.
