Jailed for carrying 70kg of explosives to sell

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 12, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a criminal appeal trial on the case of illegal trading and transportation of explosives against defendant Le Dinh Ba (born in 1952, residing in hamlet 5, Trang Son commune, Do Luong district).

At the appeal hearing, the panel of judges determined that the defendant had circumstances to consider mitigating part of the sentence such as: honest confession, showing remorse, family with contributions to the revolution....

The panel of judges accepted the defendant's appeal, amended the first instance judgment, and reduced the sentence for defendant Le Dinh Ba from 24 months in prison to 18 months in prison for illegally buying, selling, and transporting explosives.

Previously, at around 4:00 a.m. on April 2, 2015, in hamlet 6, Trang Son commune, Do Luong district, the Security Investigation Department caught Le Dinh Ba red-handed illegally transporting explosives.

Evidence seized at the scene included 71 kg of explosives (bomb powder). Le Dinh Ba confessed that the explosives were taken from the inside of a bomb and were being transported for sale when he was arrested.

In December 2015, the People's Court of Do Luong district held a first-instance trial and sentenced Le Dinh Ba to 24 months in prison. Le Dinh Ba then appealed to the appellate court to reduce the sentence to a suspended sentence.
