The unexpected incident happened tonight, also the second day of competition, and fortunately no athletes were injured.

A large section of the ceiling of Phan Dinh Phung Stadium (HCMC) collapsed during the Vietnam Open International Badminton Tournament, causing athletes to run away.

“It was a serious incident at level 1 of an international tournament. At this time, the players are not risking returning to the stadium after the incident, so we are considering options to change the competition venue,” said Ms. Huynh Ngoc Lien.

Before the incident happened, Vietnam's badminton number 1 hope Nguyen Tien Minh had won against Thammsasin Sithikom (Thailand, ranked 144th in the world) to gain the right to enter the second round of the men's singles to meet Thomi Azizan (Indonesia, ranked 233rd in the world)./.
