(Baonghean.vn) - During a spring trip to Lam Kinh relic site (Thanh Hoa), a group of reporters from the Economic and Electronic Department - Nghe An Newspaper witnessed a strange and unexplained story about a guava tree that "laughs" when scratched at the tomb of King Le Thai To.

After introducing the history of King Le Thai To's tomb, tour guide Le Thi Loan with her inspiring voice captivated us with an extremely surprising and interesting story about the guava tree that "laughs" when scratched. We followed the tour guide to the left corner of the tomb grounds where there was a skinny guava tree that looked like a willow tree, along with a row of mascots waiting for the king. Ms. Loan said: "Now that the wind has calmed down, you just need to scratch the tree trunk lightly to know right away." I used my finger to lightly scratch the tree trunk, and strangely, the branches and leaves all shook slightly, while the other trees next to the branches and leaves remained still. Another strange thing was that when you scratched a branch, only the leaves of that branch would shake. If you scratched the base of the tree, all the leaves at the top would shake.

Ms. Loan added: According to the legend of the villagers, there was a man in Hanh Thien - Nam Dinh who was infertile, went to the king's tomb to pray for a son and made 4 large elephants to pay homage and planted a guava tree in front of the tomb in 1933. The discovery of the guava tree that could "laugh" was made by a Frenchman in 1942 during an archaeological study at Lam Kinh relic site. But more than 2 years ago, this "laughing" guava tree was broken by a storm, luckily before that, the relic site had grafted some branches to preserve the breed and what made people find it even more strange was that the same guava variety planted elsewhere did not laugh, but planted in the area of King Le Thai To's tomb, it still retained the "laughing gene".

The elders in the area believe that this guava tree was planted in a spiritual place, so it is sacred and has a human-like feeling. We hope that scientists will do research to find an explanation for the guava tree that can “smile” in the Lam Kinh relic site.
