Train tickets for Lunar New Year: Increase trips and prices

Train ticket prices for Tet travel during the peak Tet holiday will increase by 19% - 39%.

Train ticket prices during peak season increase by 39%

According to the plan, from November 15 to November 20, tickets will be sold to passengers arriving at stations from Dong Ha to Hanoi (including round-trip tickets after Tet). From November 22 to November 27, Saigon station will sell tickets to passengers arriving at stations from Hue to Saigon (including round-trip tickets after Tet). From December 1 to December 10: Sell the remaining seats from Saigon to Hanoi (if any). After December 10, Saigon Passenger Transport Company will collect the remaining seats and hand them over to the stations to sell tickets.

In addition, since the Lunar New Year 2011 until now, the price of gasoline and oil has been adjusted to increase by 40%, the flow of passengers during the Lunar New Year has been uneven (one way is crowded and the other way is empty), passengers only concentrate on traveling during the period close to the Lunar New Year and right after the Lunar New Year. Therefore, to meet the travel needs of passengers, reduce the number of passengers on peak days; compensate for the cost of empty trips; encourage passengers to travel on less crowded days, from January 8, 2012 to February 13, 2012 (ie from December 15 to January 22, Year of the Dragon), Vietnam Railway Corporation has set ticket prices in accordance with specific conditions.

Accordingly, the content of ticket price adjustment during the Lunar New Year is as follows: Increase 10% of ticket price for trains in crowded directions, especially during peak time, ticket price increases from 19% - 39%.

In addition, to facilitate passengers to travel and visit relatives during Tet with the lowest travel cost, Vietnam Railways applies ticket discounts: low-traffic routes from Hanoi to Saigon before Tet are reduced by up to 79%; low-traffic routes from Saigon to Hanoi after Tet are reduced by up to 50% for all passengers.

Increase the number of Thong Nhat trains
To serve people traveling during the Lunar New Year 2012, in addition to the regular Thong Nhat trains SE1/SE2; SE3/SE4; SE5/SE6, SE7/SE8, during this year's Tet holiday, Vietnam Railways will organize additional trains SE9/SE10, SE11/SE12, SE13/SE14, SE15/SE16, TN3/TN4, TN5/TN6, TN7/TN8, TN11/TN12, TN17/TN18 and TN19/TN20 between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa.

Other passenger trains operate daily in pairs: 1 pair of SH2/1 trains between Saigon – Hue and vice versa; 1 pair of SQN2/1 trains between Saigon – Quy Nhon and vice versa; 1 pair of SQ2/1 trains between Saigon – Quang Ngai and vice versa; 1 pair of SNT2/1 trains between Saigon – Nha Trang and vice versa; 1 pair of SPT2/1 trains between Saigon – Phan Thiet and vice versa.

In addition, based on the specific situation of passenger travel needs during the holidays, SH4 train will be organized from Saigon - Hue and vice versa; D2 train from Saigon - Da Nang and vice versa; SK2 train from Saigon - Tam Ky and vice versa; in addition, SNT4 train will be organized from Saigon - Nha Trang and vice versa, meeting the travel needs of people during the holidays.

In addition, to meet the increasing travel demand of passengers, the railway industry organizes the sale of tickets to convert the first floor sleeper type of the 4-bed soft sleeper car into a seat type, one first floor bed is sold for 3 seat tickets, the ticket price is calculated according to the seat price of the air-conditioned car or the non-air-conditioned car (as the passenger agrees to buy the ticket). The hard sleeper car with 6 beds does not sell conversion tickets.

Only train SNT2/1 (Saigon-Nha Trang and vice versa) does not apply the sale of tickets to convert beds into seats. At the same time, during peak times, the railway industry also organizes the sale of extra seats (plastic chairs) for train passengers.
