VFF takes strong measures to prevent negativity before V-League 2012

December 13, 2011 10:40

Yesterday afternoon (December 12), the training course for Referees, Supervisors, and Coordinators of the 2012 National Football Tournaments officially opened in Da Nang. VFF decided to invite officers from the Department of Police Investigation of Social Order Crimes (C45) to give a lecture on the work of preventing negativity.

The refereeing of the 2011 season received a strong backlash from the public, especially in the matches near the end of the season. Many whistles from the "King" changed the fate of the teams as well as the race situation.

Faced with such pressure, the National Sports Council could not sit still and immediately after the season ended, they held a summary meeting to learn from experience. One of the most commendable decisions was to suspend three referees in the 2012 season: Tran Cong Trong (Ben Tre), Nguyen Van Quyet (Thai Binh) and Do Quoc Hoai (Hanoi).

Referee Tran Cong Trong became "famous" when Navibank SG and Hoa Phat HN protested against him in the matches against V. Hai Phong. Meanwhile, the "King" from Thai Binh, Nguyen Van Quyet, was accused of making wrong decisions in the matches between N.Sai Gon - SHB.Da Nang and B. Binh Duong - V. Hai Phong.

In addition to the decision to "behead" the 3 "Kings" mentioned above, the National Sports Council also reprimanded 3 other referees who made mistakes in the 2011 season, including: Ngo Quoc Hung, Vo Minh Tri, and Nguyen Van Kien. Among these, the most regrettable case is that of FIFA referee Vo Minh Tri because he is the current Golden Whistle winner in 2010.

In the 2012 season, according to FIFA's new regulations, the Referee Board was established to replace the National Referee Council. The decision of VFF and the Referee Board to invite C45 officials to coordinate in preventing negative activities is considered a "prevention" move from afar.

In fact, in the training course to prepare for the 2006 season, VFF invited C45 officials to lecture on corruption prevention for the supervisory and referee teams. That was after the famous corruption scandal of the “Black Shirt Kings” in 2005.

So, the question is whether, before the 2012 season, VFF and the Referee Board "indirectly" admitted that the referees' incidents last season actually had "ideological" problems and needed to be prevented from the beginning?

Speaking on the sidelines, Mr. Duong Vu Lam, Head of the National Football Referee Board, also frankly affirmed that last season there were “dark spots” in the refereeing work. However, according to Mr. Lam, we should not judge the entire refereeing team based on those “dark spots”.

According to Mr. Duong Vu Lam, to prevent any negative incidents that may occur in the 2012 season's "judging team", the Referee Board will have very strong sanctions. For example, in this training session, anyone who fails the health and fitness test will be eliminated immediately...

In addition, this training session has another notable point: the Organizing Committee conducts health checks for referees, supervisors, and assistants.

Referee health is a hot issue these days because recently, the world sports world has witnessed many unfortunate incidents related to health.
