(Baonghean.vn) - Not only did Hiep Chieu and his wife sell their niece, they also asked a neighbor to weed the field and then gave her to Cut Thi Dao to take to China to get 80 million VND.

On February 7, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of Cut Thi Dao (born 1989), Ven Van Hiep (born 1980) and Moong Thi Chieu (born 1986, Hiep's wife), all residing in Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son, for the crime of "Buying and selling children".

According to the indictment, Cut Thi Dao went to China to do business. In August 2017, Dao returned to Vietnam to visit her family. Ven Van Hiep and his wife Moong Thi Chieu came to visit. Hiep asked Dao if she would take women to China to get married again? If so, how much would she pay? Dao said that for each person she brought to China, she would pay 80 million VND. Ven Van Hiep agreed to find someone for Dao.

After agreeing with Cut Thi Dao, Hiep went to find someone to take her away. At this time, Moong Thi Chieu - Hiep's wife discussed selling Hung Thi H. (born in 2008, Hiep's sister's child, raised by this couple). After that, Hiep called to borrow Moong Thi X. (born in 2003, residing in Bao Nam commune, Ky Son) to weed the fields but then gave X. to Cut Thi Dao to take to China.

At around 11pm on August 6, 2017, Moong Thi Chieu and Ven Van Hiep took Moong Thi X. and Hung Thi H. to Muong Xen town and handed them over to Cut Thi Dao. Dao hired a taxi to take Chieu and the two children. When they reached the border between Chieu Luu and Huu Kiem communes (Ky Son), they were discovered and arrested by the Ky Son District Police working group.

After being detained for 3 days, the police discovered that Cut Thi Dao was pregnant and released her on bail to serve the investigation. At the time the trial opened, Cut Thi Dao had just given birth more than 10 days ago.

At the trial, the defendants admitted their crimes and expressed remorse. The legal representative of the victim also asked the court to consider reducing the sentences for the defendants.

Distinguishing the roles and positions of each defendant in the case, the panel sentenced Cut Thi Dao to 6 years in prison, the prison term calculated from the date of execution of the sentence; Ven Van Hiep was sentenced to 5 years in prison, Moong Thi Chieu to 4 years in prison. Regarding the civil part, the parties had reached an agreement so the court did not consider it.
