In village 5, Quynh Lien commune, Hoang Mai town, if you ask about Mr. Hoang Van Dong, everyone will know him. The reason is that every time he appears, the place becomes bustling and cheerful. And right from the first meeting, we had a strong impression of a lively, enthusiastic and dedicated cadre.

In 16 years of mediation work, he cannot remember all the times he has mediated conflicts and disagreements between villagers related to land disputes, family marriages, etc., but the feeling of happiness each time the mediation is successful remains the same. He said that there were times when he directly mediated conflicts and was insulted and chased away by the parties involved. Because each side thought they were right. However, through sincere and reasonable analysis, he convinced the parties to agree on a solution. According to him, to successfully mediate, one must have a firm grasp of the legal provisions in each field to apply them to each specific case as a basis to convince the disputing parties.

Mr. Ho Duc Nghia, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Lien Commune, Hoang Mai Town, said: "With enthusiasm and working with all their heart, mediators like Mr. Dong have contributed to helping people raise their awareness of law compliance, attaching personal responsibility to building a cultural life in residential areas; maintaining security and order, contributing to building new rural areas...".

During 15 years of working in reconciliation, regardless of the sun or rain, he has always been dedicated and responsible in resolving conflicts, bringing joy to many families and clans.

According to Mr. Giai, in order to convince others to mediate disputes and conflicts, the mediator himself must be knowledgeable about the law and be a pioneer and role model at all times and places, and must act in accordance with his words. Ms. Dang Thi Nguyen in village 3 said: “Thanks to “mediator Mr. Giai”, all incidents arising in the village were resolved thoroughly. Because people listened to him and believed in his words and actions”. Mr. Ho Quang Phuc, village chief, said: “Mr. Giai contributed greatly to ensuring security and order in the village, all incidents were detected and resolved promptly, and the village and neighborhood relationships were closely linked…”.

Mrs. Tran Thi Hong, Hamlet 10, Nghi Hung Commune (Nghi Loc): "Slow and steady wins the race"

Ms. Tran Thi Hong, Party Cell Secretary, Head of the reconciliation team of Hamlet 10, Nghi Hung Commune (Nghi Loc) has 10 years of experience in grassroots reconciliation work. Hamlet 10 has a scattered population, with over 80% of religious followers. Their level of awareness is uneven. In addition to conflicts and disputes within families and clans, complicated incidents can easily arise. With a sense of responsibility, over the past 10 years, Ms. Hong has overcome all difficulties to do a good job of resolving conflicts and maintaining solidarity between religions and non-religious people.

Sharing about her work, Ms. Hong said: Working in mediation, being a woman, being gentle is an advantage, however, some people still have the concept of "male superiority over female" so sometimes it is also an obstacle. Therefore, there are cases where she is persistent, close, and enthusiastically explains to the people in a "slow and steady" way. After a day or two, if both sides do not listen, she will proactively talk, analyze logically and emotionally, and then the people will realize right and wrong to resolve the conflict.

After 10 years of working in grassroots mediation, Ms. Tran Thi Hong was awarded a certificate of merit by the Nghi Loc District People's Committee. She is also one of the typical examples of Nghi Loc District attending the first conference to honor outstanding grassroots mediators organized by the Provincial People's Committee.
