According to scientists, climate change is mainly caused by human activities (only 10% is due to nature). Factories and enterprises use fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas in the production process but do not properly treat waste gas according to standards, increasing the amount of CO2 emissions in the air, increasing the greenhouse effect. That is the reason for climate change.
Deforestation and unsustainable logging also account for more than 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, unscientific farming practices, such as the heavy use of chemical fertilizers in agriculture and forestry and the lack of waste treatment in livestock farming, are also responsible for the use of means of transport that do not meet emission standards. It is also the habit of using energy inefficiently such as electricity, fuel, gasoline, oil, etc.
In recent years, the world has been implementing many global-scale campaigns to combat climate change, including the "Earth Hour" campaign launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature, starting in Sydney, Australia in 2007. "Earth Hour" in 2011, with the message: "Turn off the lights for 60 minutes - 365 days of action for climate change". Vietnam has participated in "Earth Hour" since 2009, and 2011 is the second year that Nghe An province has participated with activities to contribute to mitigating and adapting to climate change. To practically respond to "Earth Hour" in 2011 and achieve the long-term goals of the campaign, each person, agency, organization and enterprise needs to use energy economically, specifically saving electricity by using energy-saving household appliances, such as compact light bulbs, rechargeable batteries, and at the same time creating the habit of turning off lights and computers when not in use. Minimize the use of fossil fuels including coal, oil and gas, gradually replacing other fuel sources. Along with that, create a frugal lifestyle, reduce living expenses, this is not only true in daily life but it also has the effect of reducing greenhouse gas emissions when reducing industrial production products. Each individual and group should not overuse personal vehicles such as cars and motorbikes, but should create the habit of walking or cycling at short distances, which is both beneficial for health and beneficial for the environment and economy; or go by public transport bus. Eating lots of vegetables and fruits improves health and limiting eating too much meat is not only bad for the body but also increases the scale of livestock farming - the place that produces the largest greenhouse effect. Actively plant trees in vacant lands and bare hills; prevent and stop deforestation; restore mangrove ecosystems; create many green carpets to improve the microclimate, reduce extreme changes in weather... Everyone should act with their awareness and ability, to actively respond to "Earth Hour" 2011!
