Why is the car brake pedal low?

(Baonghean.vn) - The car brake pedal is lowered, with a lower height than standard, is one of the problems that many car owners encounter. Why does this happen?... Below are some of the causes of the brake pedal being "low" and ways to maintain the car brakes as soon as possible.

1. Lack of brake fluid

Lack of brake fluid is one of the main causes of low brake fluid. Especially when the pads are good but the fluid runs out quickly, it means that the brake system is leaking. You should check at the joints such as the connector or the area connecting the fixed and mobile parts are the most susceptible to leaks.

In addition, the lack of brake fluid can also be caused by a leak in the cylinder head. Therefore, it is necessary to check if there is oil in the cylinder head. If there is, the cylinder needs to be replaced.

Note, when adding new brake fluid, clean the bottle mouth to avoid foreign objects falling inside, causing negative effects on the brake system and pedal.

2. Brake disc and drum are warped

The important condition for the brake to be activated when the brake pedal is applied is that the bearing holding the wheel must be in the correct rotating position. If the shaft is misaligned, it will cause the brake disc and drum to rotate, resulting in the brake pads slipping inwards when the wheel rotates... At this time, even if the driver presses the brake pedal to the floor, the brake fluid will not create enough pressure to compensate and activate the friction force on the brake pads.

To quickly handle this situation, the driver needs to continuously pump the pedal many times so that the system can push the oil into the gap and activate friction.

3. Air entering the brake fluid line

Another cause of a low brake pedal is air in the line. When air enters the brake line as you apply the brakes, the line becomes clogged with air, preventing the oil from moving through the line; this must be bled to fix the problem.

Note, you should pay close attention to the order of air bleed; first the wheel farthest from the main cylinder, then the wheels closest to the cylinder; starting with the rear wheel and then the front wheel. The wheels are usually designed to make it easy for the user to bleed air, there will be a bleed screw on the rear wheel and the same with the front wheel.

Once the air has been released, the brake pedal will stiffen. Take the car for a test drive to assess whether the brake pedal height is okay, so that you can find the best way to raise or lower the brake pedal.
