Why is it hotter than 40 degrees in Nghe An before summer?
The heat wave of the past few days is in accordance with the laws of nature, but has the special characteristic of occurring widely across the country, meteorological experts said.
Although it is not yet summer, over the past week, heat waves have occurred in most of the North and Central regions with a tendency to increase by 0.5 to 1 degree Celsius each day. There is a difference between the two regions in the North, in the Northeast the highest temperature is commonly 32-34 degrees Celsius, while Bao Lac station (Cao Bang) recorded 38 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the highest temperature in the Northwest is 35-37 degrees Celsius, some places are 38 degrees Celsius such as Yen Chau, Muong La (Son La). Hanoi and the delta provinces remain at a high level of over 30 degrees Celsius.
The Central region has higher temperatures, commonly 37-39 degrees, some places over 40 degrees such as Tuong Duong (Nghe An), Huong Khe (Ha Tinh), Dong Hoi (Quang Binh), Dong Ha (Quang Tri); Da Nang up to 39-40 degrees Celsius. In the Central Highlands and the South, many places are over 38 degrees Celsius, such as: Ayunpa 40 degrees, Dong Phu and Long Khanh 38 degrees Celsius.
On April 17, the above weather pattern will continue in all regions. From April 18, the heat wave will end, with the Southeast region maintaining temperatures of 35-37 degrees Celsius.

"The heat is consistent with normal conditions," said Mr. Le Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, adding that last year at this time the meteorological agency recorded 42 degrees Celsius.
Mr. Hai said there are three causes of the heat: first, the sun is burning and is currently at its peak in the South Central region, while the rainy season has not yet arrived; second, the low pressure circulation in the west is hot; and third, the impact of the foehn wind phenomenon.
"Because El Nino will continue until June, this year's temperature is still higher than the average of many years. From the second half of April and May 2016, the average temperature nationwide was 1 to 1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average of many years," said Mr. Hai.
From June onwards, the average temperature will be lower than last year as El Nino will enter a neutral phase and transition to La Nina by the end of the year. The heat in the North and Central regions will be concentrated from the second half of April to August.
The Meteorological Agency said that in the evening and night of April 17, cold air will spread to the North (including Hanoi), then invade the North Central region, causing widespread thunderstorms. During the thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind. From April 18, the weather in the Northern provinces will turn cold. |
