Which place inside the car has the most bacteria?

The test showed that the places people frequently come into contact with inside the car are the cleanest.

PageMotorpointjust took samples from 20 locations in the interior to find out where the most bacteria are. Experts used cotton swabs and petri dishes, meticulously wiped 20 locations, then left 5 days for bacteria to grow, and finally examined under a microscope for analysis and comparison.

The test was carried out on a typical British car that is still used every day, including transporting children and pets, and regularly eating and drinking in the car.

The test yielded surprising results. Contrary to what many people might have expected, the most human-contacting part of the car was the cleanest. The three cleanest spots were the steering wheel, gearshift, and interior rearview mirror.

On the other hand, the pet seat was the most germ-ridden spot, followed by the accelerator/brake pedal, seatbelt buckle, and handbrake. Cup holders, interior door latches, and volume knobs were also among the dirtiest.

PageMotorpointsaid that if the car owner cleaned regularly, the car interior would not be dirty like this.

According to a survey of 1,050 car owners, Brits only clean their car interiors 10 times a year, which is about once every five weeks. 94% of car owners said they eat and drink in their cars, and 58% regularly transport pets. This suggests that car owners need to clean their car interiors more often.

More surprisingly, 1 in 10 people surveyed said they clean their interiors just twice a year, or less.

Alison Weatherley, head of communications at Motorpoint, said the results of the test showed car owners needed to clean their interiors more often.

"Many people have the habit of eating in the car, carrying small children or pets, and this makes the car have more bacteria, which is the premise for creating pathogens that affect the health of the car owner and those sitting inside," said Alison Weatherley.
