Efficient exploitation of production lines

Vicem Hoang Mai Cement Factory is invested with French FCB technology and a kiln with a designed capacity of 4,000 tons of clinker/day. This is a dry method kiln system, a 5-storey heat exchange tower... operated and exploited effectively by Vicem Hoang Mai.

To achieve that result, in addition to maintaining the repair of the stages according to the plan, in the past time, the company has implemented many innovative programs, improved equipment and repaired bottlenecks such as: Replacing 4 C1 cyclones with new generation cyclones to improve sedimentation efficiency, reduce system pressure drop; replacing all grate 1 from BMH type to new generation grate IKN type to improve heat recovery efficiency and improve clinker quality, renovating Calciner Off - Line downdraft type of FCB to In - Line type; renovating Kilnhood to change the position of wind heat recovery 3.

Some auxiliary equipment has been renovated such as the air duct 3 connecting to the Kilnhood; the smoke chamber connecting to the new Calciner. The renovated kiln system has effectively used low-grade coal, reducing coal consumption after repair and renovation to below 800 kcal/kg of clinker. The kiln capacity reached 4,500 tons/day, electricity consumption < 29.5kWh/ton of clinker.

The company effectively uses additives and artificial gypsum for cement types, especially highly active additives, originating from waste from other industries such as: activated slag, blast furnace slag, artificial gypsum... to increase the company's efficiency, while contributing greatly to environmental protection.

Vicem Hoang Mai has proactively researched, manufactured and put into operation two systems including: Clinker export system to increase export capacity from 3,000 - 4,000 tons/day to 7,000 - 8,000 tons/day and bulk cement export system to increase bulk cement export capacity and diversify types.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tinh - Deputy General Director, Head of Technical Department of Vicem Hoang Mai said: "Because the equipment line has been in operation for nearly 30 years, many main equipment in the production line have degraded and need to be replaced, restored and repaired, while the unit price of imported spare parts is increasingly high, so Vicem Hoang Mai always strengthens production management, improves technological discipline, implements solutions to reduce consumption of raw materials, fuel, and electricity for production. During repair periods, we always strengthen self-repair work and conduct reviews to maximize the use of inventory materials and spare parts, restore old materials to use during repair periods to reduce inventory, reduce new purchase costs and ensure stable operation of the equipment line".

Implement important projects

With the goal of turning Vicem Hoang Mai into a production center with sufficient scale, applying modern technology, and high competitiveness, over the past time, Vicem Hoang Mai has strived to become one of the prestigious cement brands in the market, while focusing on implementing key projects.

In 2024, Vicem Hoang Mai completed and put the alternative fuel system into stable operation with an alternative heat consumption rate of about 40%, an increase of about 15% compared to the Feasibility Study Report (25%), contributing to increasing the environmental economic efficiency of the Company.

In addition, implementing and completing other projects related to waste co-processing and the Company has been granted Environmental License No. 385/GPMT-BTNMT by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on September 30, 2024 for the project: "Vicem Hoang Mai Cement Factory (increasing production capacity from 4,000 tons of clinker/day to 4,500 tons of clinker/day and using common solid waste, hazardous waste as raw materials, alternative fuels and co-processing waste in cement production)".

Mr. Le Dinh Thang - Deputy General Director of Vicem Hoang Mai said: “Resolute in the goal of investing in construction for sustainable development, the Company continues to innovate and improve investment and construction management; consider adjusting the progress of implementing appropriate investment projects, determined to achieve the goal: Completing the project of utilizing waste heat to generate electricity from July 2025 with a total investment of 281.3 billion VND, expected electricity output of 41,938 MWh/year equivalent to about 25% of purchased electricity, reducing the load on the national power system and increasing the proactiveness in production of the factory, at the same time, is a practical solution towards environmental protection and sustainable development. At the same time, investing in the construction of a new Vicem Hoang Mai General Port capable of receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 70,000DWT with synchronous infrastructure, meeting the requirements of supplying cement to the Central region, the Central Highlands, the whole country and for export; Investing in the Vicem Hoang Mai Cement Grinding Station project with a scale of 1.2 million tons of cement/year (equivalent to a grinding capacity of 150 tons of OPC cement/h) aims to grind all excess clinker, diversify production products, increase cement supply for VICEM for domestic consumption and export, to help VICEM maintain its pivotal role, regulate and stabilize the cement market of the whole country, meeting VICEM's development strategy approved by the Prime Minister.

In parallel with the Vicem Hoang Mai Cement Grinding Station project in Dong Hoi - Nghe An, we are carrying out investment procedures for the Hoang Mai 2 Cement project - phase 1 and continuing to implement construction investment projects based on the needs of production and business, focusing on projects that bring economic and environmental efficiency...”.
