The Russian Navy reconnaissance ship Ivan Churs was attacked by three unmanned speedboats of the Ukrainian army outside the Bosporus Strait.

According to RT news agency, this is the information announced by Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov at a press conference on May 24.

Mr. Konashenkov said the Ivan Churs ship was attacked by drones at sea in the early morning of May 24, while moving in Türkiye's exclusive economic zone, about 140km northeast of the Bosporus Strait.

However, the Ukrainian side failed to attack. The Ivan Churs also returned to normal duties on May 24.

The attack occurred while the Ivan Churs was patrolling near the TurkStream and Blue Stream natural gas pipelines that transport gas from Russia to Türkiye, part of which passes through the Black Sea. Russia has deployed naval patrols since the attack on the Nord Stream pipeline in September 2022.

“All enemy ships were destroyed by fire from Russian reconnaissance ships,” Mr. Konashenkov stressed.

The Russian Ministry of Defense shared a video of the incident. In the video, a small black speedboat can be seen coming under fire. The boat then takes a direct hit and explodes, sending a plume of black smoke into the water.
