Infection and discharge caused by silicone breast lift patches.

To conceal their modest bust size, women opt for silicone nipple covers. However, some experience yellowish discharge from the nipples due to infection.

The heat protection still covers the nipples.

Ms. Vu Thu Ha, residing in Bac Linh Dam, Hanoi, had to give up using breast-lifting patches because of the terrifying reactions of her nipples to this "foreign object."

Ms. Ha said her breasts weren't too small. She heard from friends about nipple covers that help women feel less hot and uncomfortable compared to regular bras. Ms. Ha ordered them online at a discounted price of 45,000 VND per set. For the first week, Ms. Ha found them quite interesting. Thanks to the covers, she felt confident showing off her full, round breasts without being criticized for being revealing.

However, by the second week, Ms. Ha felt an itching sensation on her nipples. Ms. Ha recalled: "While working, I felt an intense itch there. Whenever I had a free moment, I would run to the bathroom to scratch. Dry, peeling skin appeared on my nipples. Red, swollen cracks appeared around my breasts."

"The pain and itching made me go to a dermatologist, who diagnosed me with dermatitis. The medication and consultation fees cost over a million dong. The doctor warned me that it was lucky I went to the doctor early, otherwise the cracks around my nipples could become infected and I might even lose my nipples. I don't know if that's true, but hearing the doctor say that scared me."

After finishing the prescribed medication and using a special cleansing milk around her breasts for a month, the peeling skin around her breasts gradually disappeared. This year is hotter than last year, but Ms. Ha is still afraid to use breast patches.

Le Thu Trang, a resident of Hoang Van Thai Street, Hanoi, has been a fan of breast past four years. She says her breasts are small, and she often feels self-conscious about wearing dresses. Her workplace requires a uniform of dresses and shirts. Trang says that while she can manage in winter, she's constantly worried about her bust size in the summer.

Before breast enhancement stickers became available, Ms. Trang had to wear thick, padded bras made of foam, which were incredibly hot and uncomfortable. Since silicone breast covers appeared on the market, which both increase breast size and don't cause heat, Ms. Trang has bought many to use throughout the summer. For the past four years, Ms. Trang hasn't experienced any signs of infection.

Ms. Trang buys silicone breast pads and strapless bras from well-known brands for between 250,000 and 450,000 VND. Perhaps that's why Ms. Trang is confident in becoming a fan of breast pads. Ms. Trang says her secret to preventing infection from using silicone pads is to apply anti-inflammatory cream around her breasts twice a day using a cotton pad.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Bac, residing in Phuong Mai, Hanoi, formerly a doctor at the Central Dermatology Hospital, said she has encountered many women suffering from eczema around the breasts due to the use of silicone breast pads or wearing bras that are too thick and do not absorb sweat. This is especially true for women who are breastfeeding.

Breast pasties are mostly made of silicone, which is usually durable and airtight, with no sweat-absorbing properties. When sweat is secreted from the body, it traps on the pasties, preventing it from escaping, creating a damp area around the breasts that can cause inflammation. Additionally, dead skin cells that are shed from the body are not removed, and when combined with sweat, create an ideal environment for bacteria to thrive.

According to Doctor Bac, some women who come for treatment of eczema around the breasts also have yellow discharge from the nipples and blisters around the breasts. These cases require daily application of ointment and antibiotics.

In the summer, many women dislike applying ointment, but doctors recommend using it correctly as advised for the infection to heal. Some women have to go back for check-ups every two weeks because the peeling skin around the areola still appears even after removing the silicone implants.

The doctor explained that since eczema had already occurred, removing the patches was only a way to isolate the source of the infection, and that medication was still necessary to allow the skin to peel off and for normal skin to regenerate.

According to our survey, there are many different types of breast stickers on the market, priced from 45,000 to 250,000 VND. At a lingerie shop on Chua Boc Street, small, round silicone breast stickers are sold for 200,000 VND per pair (equivalent to 4 pieces). These products are advertised as being from a famous lingerie brand. However, the silicone stickers are only wrapped in ordinary plastic bags.

Regarding silicone breast pads that help women confidently show off their breasts, Dr. Bac shared: The product itself is not inherently bad, but when women buy them, they need to find products from reputable sources and, importantly, know how to properly clean the pads to avoid infections, eczema, and fungal infections on the breasts.
