Fields Institute holds conference to honor Professor Ngo Bao Chau

The symposium will focus on the work of Professor Ngo Bao Chau and its current and potential impacts.
The aim of the conference is to provide the audience with a general understanding of the Langlands programme and to introduce recent developments in the field related to the work of Professor Ngo Bao Chau.
The conference is not only for professional mathematicians but also open to graduate students, mathematicians working in various fields and scientists involved in mathematics.
In the opening session of the conference, Ms. Ingrid Dautechies, President of the International Mathematical Union and Mr. Le Sy Vuong Ha, Ambassador of Vietnam to Canada also attended.
In addition to Professor Ngo Bao Chau, there were also prominent speakers at the conference including: James Arthur, Gerard Laumon, Edward Frenkel, Richard Taylor, Edward Witten, Diana Shelstad, Laurent Lafforgue, and Nigel Hitchin.
These are outstanding mathematicians from different fields of Number Theory, physical mathematics and geometry.
According to the Office of the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (Vietnam), where Professor Ngo Bao Chau is the Scientific Director, this is the first time the Fields Institute has organized a Fields Medal symposium.
