The Provincial People's Procuracy responds to citizens' complaints
(Baonghean) - Mr. Vu Van Quy and Mrs. Hoang Thi Viet, hamlet 2/9, Tan Thang commune, Quynh Luu district complained about the investigation and trial conclusion of the Quynh Luu district Court of First Instance regarding the case that caused the death of their son, Vu Ngoc Lam, on July 20, 2011 (Nghe An Newspaper has published an article about this case). After receiving the official dispatch of Nghe An Newspaper, the Chief Prosecutor of Nghe An Provincial People's Procuracy issued Official Dispatch No. 230/VKS-P3 dated March 15, responding as follows:
(Baonghean) - Mr. Vu Van Quy and Mrs. Hoang Thi Viet, hamlet 2/9, Tan Thang commune, Quynh Luu district complained about the investigation and trial conclusion of the Quynh Luu district Court of First Instance regarding the case that caused the death of their son, Vu Ngoc Lam, on July 20, 2011 (Nghe An Newspaper has published an article about this case). After receiving the official dispatch of Nghe An Newspaper, the Chief Prosecutor of Nghe An Provincial People's Procuracy issued Official Dispatch No. 230/VKS-P3 dated March 15, responding as follows:
The case occurred on the night of July 20, 2011 at Ben Nghe Bridge (border between Tan Thang and Quynh Thang communes), resulting in 2 people being injured and 1 person being killed, Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam. After the case occurred, the prosecution agencies of Quynh Luu district initiated an investigation and prosecuted 14 defendants for the crime of "Intentionally causing injury and disturbing public order". On December 27, 2011, the People's Court of Quynh Luu district opened a trial for this case. Mr. Vu Van Quy and Ms. Hoang Thi Viet, the parents of the victim, were determined by the Court to be the legal representatives of Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam to participate in the proceedings at the trial.
After the first instance trial, on January 9, 2012, the People's Court of Nghe An province received a petition from Mr. Quy and Ms. Viet appealing the entire first instance criminal judgment and requesting the Provincial Court to retry the case, clarify the cause of Vu Ngoc Lam's death to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Mr. Lam and his family.
Currently, the case is being handled by the Provincial People's Court and resolved according to the appeal procedure. The representative of the Provincial People's Procuracy will participate in exercising the right to prosecute and supervise the appeal trial of this case. Thus, the case is being considered and resolved by the Court according to the content of the appeal. The Provincial People's Procuracy responded to Nghe An Newspaper and the citizens to know and monitor the settlement of the case until the appeal trial results are available.
