|
Hai Thuong Lan Ong's real name is Le Huu Trac, born on November 12, Canh Ty year (December 11, 1720), originally from Van Xa village, Duong Hao district, Thuong Hong prefecture, Hung Yen province (now Lieu Xa commune, Yen My district, Hung Yen province).
Born into a family of scholars, his grandfather Le Huu Danh passed the Second Class Doctorate exam and became a mandarin under the Le Du Tong dynasty, his elder brother Le Huu Kiem passed the Third Class Doctorate exam. His mother was Mrs. Bui Thi Thuong, from Bau Thuong, Tinh Dien commune (now Son Quang commune, Huong Son, Ha Tinh). Hai Thuong Lan Ong died on the 15th day of the first lunar month in the year of Tan Hoi (1791) in his mother's hometown, at the age of 71.
With his profound knowledge of astronomy, geography, human resources and talent in the magic of yin and yang, he learned medicine very quickly. He always kept in mind: "The way of medicine is a humane art that focuses on human life; must worry about people's worries, be happy about people's happiness, only take the treatment and saving of people as one's duty, must not seek profit or boast about achievements". And throughout the remaining 40 years of his life, he tirelessly strived to fulfill his noble wish: "I have devoted myself to the medical profession, so I always want to devote all my extensive technical abilities to raising the bright red flag in the medical field".

Throughout his life, he not only devoted himself to saving people and helping others, but also worked hard to compile many valuable documents on medicine and pharmacy and opened schools to train and spread medical knowledge to many generations of physicians. Le Huu Trac's greatest contribution to the history of the development of traditional medicine, both in theory and practice, is the famous classic book: "Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh". "Hai Thuong Y Tong Tam Linh" has long been considered by the Vietnamese medical community as the 18th century medical encyclopedia and also the largest medical book of Vietnamese Oriental medicine. This valuable book has not only become a bedside book for generations of Vietnamese physicians hundreds of years ago, but is also a system of medical records, the most precious medical heritage of the nation, evaluated by modern scientists as "a medical miracle of the nation and the world".
