Commenting on the significance of the project, Mr. Nguyen Van Bo, Director of VASS, said: The establishment of the Vegetable Cooperation Center between Vietnam and Korea is a testament to the close connection between scientific research, training and trade - the market of the two countries. In particular, the team of agricultural scientists in Vietnam learns more from Korean experts.
By testing and evaluating technical advances, especially vegetable varieties produced according to Korean food safety standards in Vietnam's climate conditions, seed suppliers and product trading enterprises will cooperate with localities to expand production and consume large-scale products, opening up the possibility of exporting Vietnamese vegetables, tubers and fruits to Korea.
In 2013, the project members piloted a model of vegetable, root and fruit production at the Institute of CLC-CTP, including Chinese cabbage, turnips, chili, green onions and potatoes. Based on that, the project built demonstration areas for vegetable production in Gia Xuyen, Nam Tan, Le Loi communes (Hai Duong) and Yen Lac commune (Hoa Binh) with 29 households participating.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tu, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hoa Binh, shared: Hoa Binh is a mountainous province adjacent to Hanoi. With a large land area, the province has many favorable conditions for growing vegetables and fruits. The project is a great opportunity for Hoa Binh farmers to access modern and professional farming techniques.
