Vietnam sells nearly 1 million tons of rice, Türkiye spends 186 times more to buy Vietnamese rice
In August alone, our country exported over 900,000 tons of rice, earning over 546 million USD. Of which, one country spent 186 times more to buy Vietnamese rice.
Preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs show that last August, our country exported 921 thousand tons of rice, with a turnover of 546.4 million USD, a sharp increase of 39.5% in volume and 50.7% in value compared to July 2023.
In August 2033, except for the Ivory Coast market which recorded negative growth compared to the same period last year, the remaining markets all increased their rice imports from Vietnam.
Specifically, in August alone, exports to the Philippines reached nearly 410 thousand tons of rice, earning 244 million USD, up 76.5% in value compared to August last year. This was also the country that bought the most rice from Vietnam last August.
In addition, rice exports to China also increased by 45.6%, to Malaysia increased by 50.6%, to Ghana increased by 63.8%...
Notably, rice exports to Indonesia reached 61.2 million USD, up 1,409% over the same period last year. In addition, Türkiye also spent 186 times more money, equivalent to 18.6 million USD compared to 100,000 USD in the same period last year to buy Vietnamese rice in August 2023.
In the first 8 months of 2023, our country exported more than 5.8 million tons of rice, with a turnover of 3.16 billion USD, up 21.4% in volume but up 35.7% in value over the same period last year due to a sharp increase in rice export prices.

In the domestic market, in the first week of September (August 31 - September 7), rice prices decreased quite sharply compared to the last week of August. In particular, the smallest decrease was 83 VND/kg for regular rice in warehouses, other types of rice decreased from 350-567 VND/kg, depending on the type.
Specifically, the average price of rice in the field decreased to 7,868 VND/kg, regular rice in the warehouse was 9,158 VND/kg; brown rice grade 1 was 12,217 VND/kg, white rice grade 1 was 14,400 VND/kg, 5% broken rice was 14,014 VND/kg, 15% broken rice was 13,767 VND/kg, 25% broken rice was 13,467 VND/kg.
According to experts and rice businesses, both export prices and domestic prices have fallen sharply in recent sessions due to the impact from the Philippine market, when this country imposed a ceiling price in the domestic market much lower than world rice prices.
This means that countries will find it difficult to export to the Philippines due to price differences, causing rice prices on the world market to cool down.
In terms of market, the Philippines is still the largest customer of Vietnamese rice, reaching nearly 1.23 billion USD, up 16%, accounting for 38.9% of the total export turnover of this item of our country.

Exports to China reached 452 million USD, up 67.9% over the same period in 2023; to Indonesia reached 361.2 million USD, up 1,505%; to Ghana reached 254 million USD, up 64.9%; to Malaysia increased 2.4%...
Data from the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) shows that after three consecutive declines, on September 11, the export prices of 5% and 25% broken rice from Vietnam stabilized at 623 USD/ton and 608 USD/ton.
Compared to the peak of 643 USD/ton for 5% broken rice and 628 USD/ton for 25% broken rice, the export price of our country's rice has decreased by 20 USD/ton. However, the price of Vietnamese rice is still higher than the same type of rice from Thailand and Pakistan.
